Therapeutic Eurythmy is an art therapy established in European clinics and hospitals where anthroposophic medicine is practiced. It is a non-invasive therapy in which the patient takes an active step in transforming their condition through movements that help adjust their relationships to themselves and the world. Following a thorough medical diagnosis, usually in consultation with a referring physician, a sequence of movements is prescribed. When the patient and therapist meet, this sequence is slowly worked, developing in time into a home practice for the patient. This sequence is designed to initiate an inner movement and rhythm suited to the particular person and their condition. The arrhythmic, ingrained patterms of life, nutrition, posture and inner attitudes which have formed the imbalance are challenged and reformed by the very composer of life-habits, movement itself. Most forms of physical disease, emotional distress, and mental illness are treatable. Therapeutic Eurythmy can also be most helpful before and after surgery, when it encourages and enhances the individual’s own healing and recuperative process.
